Most people feel they must have someone "technical" to manage a software conversion. For the most part, being "technical" does not play that big of a role. It is more about managing the transition and communicating expectations. If you manage the change well, you will reap the rewards of a smooth transition. If you let the change manage you, your software conversion will feel more like a root canal, for both you and your customers.

As a provider of pest control software, we hear it every day. "I don't like my current software, but I would rather have a root canal than go through a conversion." Sure, conversions are hard, but if you take all the right steps, it is far less painful than major dental work. Most companies come out on the other side of a software conversion, grateful that they made the change. Most even say, "that wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be."

Let’s face it: embracing change, especially the unexpected or surprising variety, is no fun. Even in the case of making proactive, intentional changes; we can be guilty of wanting to see others take the first step. But personal confidence and maturity cannot be gained by living vicariously through others. Whether it is intentionally building a good habit or responding, with a good attitude, to an unplanned change – we should go first!

To Buy or Not to Buy
To buy or not to buy, that is the question! As pest companies begin the transition from paper route sheets to mobile applications, the question becomes, "should we buy the phones or should the tech use their own." Unfortunately, there is not a perfect answer. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, and the answer lies with the goals and comfort level in your business.
The good news is that you have a choice. We now live in a world where we don't have to purchase the $2,000 handheld device that stops working every time it rains. The mobile apps of today work on the smartphones that we already have in our pocket.
